Theater Journal Post 1
I would consider myself overall experienced with theater, having been involved in theater since middle school, and having done some kind of theater experience every year since then. I have performed in numerous musicals and a few plays as well. I have always had an affinity to the art's and humanities as opposed to Stem subjects, and that has been reflected in my schoolwork as well as my personal endeavors. A memorable anecdote I remember from previous performances still gets told at my old middle school at the first day of drama club to this day. During a middle school performance of Rock of Ages, a fellow castmate forgot his entrance, and missed an entire scene, through some improvisation students were able to continue moving forward and we moved on to the next scene. Then, he jumped on to stage and attempted to say his lines, not realizing we had already switched scenes. While a major plot point having to do with other characters was playing out, a random pizza delivery man broke into their house and attempted to sell 2 large cheese pizzas. What I find most hilarious from this is that to make matters worse, someone was standing in the wings watching the scene, and not realizing their mic was on, said "wrong scene moron". It's safe to assume the entire cast was spoken to after the performance. I would consider myself to be a strong communicator and can energize groups well, I would also like to believe those who call me a friend consider me to be trustworthy and honest. I would consider organization to be a weakness I am still getting better at, and to add on to that, I also have trouble focusing during the longer school periods, which can lead to some miscommunications on my part. That also has extended to theater, where I have occasionally been known for just winging dialogue I have forgotten, but I like to think that most of them go off without a hitch. My goals for this year is to gain better organizational habits and improve my understanding and perspective on theater. I also wish to improve my ability to connect with a show and breakdown scenes, both as someone who is frequently acting and as someone with a passion for literature. Over all I am very excited for the school year and the possibilities it holds.
