T.I.K.T.B.T. - T.E.A.M.

Tension: The play's tension is mostly established through the character's dynamics with each other and their interactions. The dialogue is especially poignant and realistic and accentuates the emotional depth of the scenes. The simplistic set design allows the audience to focus on the character's emotional monologues while also deepening the meaning with movement and set changes as the monologue proceeds. The use of dark blue lighting to illuminate these things while at the same time not drawing attention was a smart move. The build-up of the character's monologues and conversations with each other and the inevitable shift into an argument provides a realistic and tense depiction of dysfunctional family dynamics as well.  Emotion: As mentioned before, much of the emotion stems from the raw and powerful dialogue between the family members. Another aspect is the physical movements of the actors, which portray the energy and feelings of the characters with precision in a ...

TIKTBT Notes After First Watch

I found the show to be amazing, it truly felt like a theater experience different from a film or tv show. This show proves just how different and evolved and separated theater and theater-making as an artform is from other similar visual arts. I thought the story was well-paced and was never really bored, the actor's performances were excellent and the emotional aspects of the show were on point. Dysfunctional family dynamics hits close to home for pretty much everyone, and yet regardless it still feels so personal and raw. Being able to see yourself in the characters and stories and at the same time being forced to expand yourself and empathize and listen and watch perspectives and characters you don't relate to provides a great moment for inner dialogue and pushing thought forward. I have had very few pieces of art make me cry as much as this show did, and I believe that to be a great achievement in my mind. I am excited to discuss this show in-depth in the Black Box, as I h...

Digital Theater Plus T.I.K.T.B.T. Comprehensive Guide

Frantic Assembly's process is extremely unique from what we have previously studied in not only the way they form the show but also the way they achieve similar cathartic experiences in different ways. Much of their process is sitting down and collaborating, throwing around ideas until they find something that sticks. They do not outright begin to write a script and instead focus on harnessing the vibe or spirit of what they are going for. Much of the writing, stage design, and movement stem from the collaboration, studying storyboard images and the plot to find what sticks to them and what inspires them. Frantic Assembly is extremely detail-oriented, they study every aspect of the show searching for new inspiration or ideas to explore. By the end of the show's production, the show had begun to materialize, with the vision not being fully fulfilled until the last minute. Through the decisions they made on the stage design, setting, script, movement, music, and every other aspe...

Frantic Assembly

Frantic Assembly is a British Theater company focused on making devised theater.  The company utilizes a method focused on improvisation and "Building Blocks" breaking down a show to its most pure basic truth and building it back up again one "block" or idea at a time.  Frantic Assembly's productions are very choreography-focused and use interpretive movements to convey their show. Much if not all of their scripts are improvised or changing. In the show "Things I Know To Be True", Frantic Assembly focused on creating a less physical show and achieving more of an emotional connection. While still physical and extremely interpretive, the cast spent much of its time before the show premiered crafting physical movements and choreography to capture the emotion, as opposed to a more formal script.  This exemplifies devised theater by focusing less on a script or realism, and breaking down a show to its most raw form and crafting theater around that.
