She Kills Monsters TEAM

 Tension: Many scenes utilized dialogue and storytelling to establish tension. Many times extremely emotional and difficult experiences are mentioned rather bluntly and with a level of sharpness. Watching how the characters then react to this was very interesting and a source of tension. Another way in which tension is established is through stage combat, which combined drama with action to create a level of suspense.

Emotion: She Kills monsters deals with many emotional topics, and utilizes these to convey emotion. The entire show is a display of a young woman experiencing the death of her sister and attempting to grieve and move on. Simply this idea alone is an emotional one and the manner in which the main character is able to communicate with her dead sister and watching it from the audience's perspective was itself an emotional experience.

Atmosphere: The use of lighting, sound, and set design allowed the audience to truly see the difference between the DnD world and the real world, and the seamless transition between blurred the lines in a way that was interesting and effective. Another aspect of the atmosphere was the costumes, the costumes were truly on another level this year, and enhanced the show's ability to suspend belief. 

Meaning: Similar to emotion, the show is an intimate portrayal of grief and morning, and through the medium of DnD was able to handle these topics in a way that did not feel too deep or depressing for people to get what they wanted out of it.

T.I.K.T.B.T. - T.E.A.M.

 Tension: The play's tension is mostly established through the character's dynamics with each other and their interactions. The dialogue is especially poignant and realistic and accentuates the emotional depth of the scenes. The simplistic set design allows the audience to focus on the character's emotional monologues while also deepening the meaning with movement and set changes as the monologue proceeds. The use of dark blue lighting to illuminate these things while at the same time not drawing attention was a smart move.
