Collaborative Project Repost

Our process was particularly interesting this time around, while we still struggled to make a more cohesive piece, I feel as though we took more opportunities to be creative, and the payoff was certainly noticeable. As a group, we made a focused effort to implement interpretive, creative movements, as opposed to the more rhythmic and basic movements we were using before. To begin, we worked on our song lyrics, breaking them down and experimenting to find what would fit. All of the lyrics had a depressing or reflective edge, and the sharp, seemingly painful movements of the group reflected this effectively. Most of the time, people were speaking at a certain rhythm, which would line up with the group members' movements, and while this was certainly an interesting look, and easy to pull off, the constant rhythm began to feel repetitive after a while. Another aspect that was less effective than others was the previously mentioned disjointed nature of the collaboration. Most scenes felt distanced from the others, and with no cohesive thread to follow there was much left to be desired after watching it all the way through. In the future, it may be necessary to spend more time in the planning stages in order to better establish a vision or theme which would keep the group focused and connected in our endeavors. One effective aspect of our collaboration was the movements themselves, during the individual scenes I found that the movements were almost always fitting, and while subtle, certainly felt purposeful and precise in their implementation. I especially appreciated Ashlinn's scene, whose touching lyrics combined with the literally physical nature of the movements fit the theme and offered some opportunities for some interesting camera work. I also appreciated everyone's lyrics, as nothing felt particularly out of place or jarring, and the process of crafting the movements based on the lyrics stressed some creative brain muscles for every group member. In the future, I would love to revisit the lyric interpretation as I find it to be an effective way to allow every member of the group to be a part of the collaborative process from the ground up. An area for improvement would be our use of lighting, unfortunately, there were some noticeable opportunities in the video to fix the lighting or use it in a more unique or creative way, yet due to some lackluster time management, we did not leave ourselves enough time to work with Ms. Guarino and use the lighting to our advantage. In the future, time management should be a focus during collaborative projects.
