Traditions and Performance Conventions

 For my theater tradition, I have chosen the Khon Dance Drama, with my specific convention being acrobatics. I find this to be a fascinating subject to research, and one that will push me to reach my highest attainable level of success. Khon dance is substantially more obscure than some of the other ideas I was looking into, and I find this to be an exciting challenge. At this stage in my growth as a theater student, I feel I am ready to take on a challenge that will force me to push my boundaries, and elevate my level of thinking. I am well prepared to meet the obstacles that face me head-on, and moreover, I am ready and willing to take full advantage of the resources offered to me by both the school and Ms. Guarino. Khon dance drama is a tradition with large and expansive history, one which incorporates a plethora of religious and cultural development over hundreds of years. I wish to use this as an opportunity to celebrate such a culturally rich tradition and seek to take great care in representing it in a manner that is thoughtful and considerate of the culture it stems from. I am excited to get to work on this project and deliver my findings with the adequate tact this tradition deserves. Furthermore, I find the challenge of representing the acrobatics involved with Khon dance an exciting chance to work on movement within the theater, an area which I am lacking compared to others.

T.I.K.T.B.T. - T.E.A.M.

 Tension: The play's tension is mostly established through the character's dynamics with each other and their interactions. The dialogue is especially poignant and realistic and accentuates the emotional depth of the scenes. The simplistic set design allows the audience to focus on the character's emotional monologues while also deepening the meaning with movement and set changes as the monologue proceeds. The use of dark blue lighting to illuminate these things while at the same time not drawing attention was a smart move. The build-up of the character's monologues and conversations with each other and the inevitable shift into an argument provides a realistic and tense depiction of dysfunctional family dynamics as well.  Emotion: As mentioned before, much of the emotion stems from the raw and powerful dialogue between the family members.
